Official recap and videos: here, VRChat world could be accessed here.
In July 2021, during the pandemic lockdown, I spent a lot of time in VR and discovered the vibrant rave scene in VRChat, along with a community of developers pushing the boundaries of music and live experiences in virtual spaces. VRChat felt like the perfect medium for a HYPERSCREEN event—one that could exist simultaneously in physical and virtual realms. We built a world in VRChat and curated a audiovisual show that unfolded both at ALL Club in Shanghai and in VRChat on August 19, 2021, bridging these two spaces in real time.

HYPERSCREEN: DIASPORA explores the fragmented and unstable nature of identity in digital spaces. Designed as a virtual club environment, the project layers multiple audiovisual feeds, chat overlays, and algorithmic distortions to simulate the disorienting experience of existing across time zones, platforms, and cultural contexts. By incorporating live-mixed visuals, multilingual text fragments, and AI-generated elements, HYPERSCREEN: DIASPORA creates a shifting, unstable landscape where personal and collective narratives blur. Through this mediated space, the work reflects on digital displacement, transient communities, and the ways technology shapes diasporic experience.
